Thank you to all of the MOTHERS that carried the Tribe through these trying years.
It’s really a shame that you have to get old before you realize how many mothers guided your life. I was fortunate to be raised in a family neighborhood and the church family was pulled hair, pinched nose before a call home to my mother. Wow I have quite a few mothers to be thankful for.
Our Tribe needs to reflect on those MOTHERS that gave their courage, strength and guidance. Although most of the Tribal council has traditionally been men the strength and wisdom has been the MOTHERS. In the beginning of our reorganizing I had no clue, we had no clue which direction to take. We were told not to pursue recognition but two strong MOTHERS persuaded us that we could handle anything thrown at us, and they were right. At times we needed support but did not realize where it was coming from. It’s not always the front line that carries the family. When we had nothing, the MOTHERS volunteered. When the Fathers had to sacrifice their time from their job and family the MOTHERS gave (permission) and support. We all have thanks for our MOTHERS but collectively as a Tribal family we all need to thank all of those MOTHERS that carried us so far. Mentoring, office staff, historians, genealogists’ cooks, Council persons and all-around organizers’. Unfortunately, so many have crossed over, so if you see the spouse or children of these beautiful MOTHERS give them a hug and tell them how much you appreciate their efforts
Thank you so much!
