Tribal Prayer Circle

The Nanticoke-Lenape Christian Tribal Prayer Circle was established by tribal elders in the 1980's as a fellowship of believers in Jesus Christ, both tribal and non-tribal, who gathered for prayer, biblical discussion, and Christian worship within a tribal cultural context.

Participants have included those who come from various Christian congregations and those who are seeking greater insight into the Jesus Way. The Prayer Circle's mission, from its inception, has been to strengthen the Christian faith of all participants and bless them with insights to share with their respective congregations and to strengthen their witness.

Our symbol centers on the Cross of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, adorned with the  colors of the “Four Sacred Directions,”
as adopted by the Nanticoke-Lenape.  We have appropriated the symbol of the four directions to lift the redeeming power and truth of the Jesus Way at all places, times, and stages of life. The four eagle feathers represent the four Gospels: Matthew; Mark; Luke; and, John. They remind us of the good news of salvation in Christ given for the whole world in the Word of God. The box turtle specifically represents our tribe, blessed by the light of the Gospel and called to faith in Jesus Christ. The eagle symbolizes the grace and power of God in receiving and answering our prayers.
